Step D) Workshop: Health’s fruits – Virtues and features of the fresh and processed Sicilian citrus fruits – Siracusa – May 28th, 2015

The Workshop head on May 28th, 2015 in Syracuse and organised by the The Citrus Production District of Sicily, within the project financed by the Mipaaf (Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies) was focused on PDO, PGI and BIO products promotion and, particularly, on citrus fruits’ healthy virtues.

Important workshop participants represented mainly Italian hospitals and universities, which conduct important laboratory and clinical studies about the importance of fruit consumption, especially of citrus fruits.

As reported by the president of The Citrus District of Sicily, Federica Argentati, at the end of the workshop: “Also encouraged by these relevant scientific evidences, the whole District’s Board of Directors decided to work together with the Territory, so that the Parliament could launch a new Citrus Fruits Plan, that is a new framework law (the last one dates back to the year 1998), resulting from a real sharing, aiming to regulate the whole branch and to the interaction with public entities, universities and research bodies about the following topics: innovation, communication and marketing concerning the excellent Sicilian citrus products. A similar approach should be implemented in the programming period EU 2014/20, supporting product innovation, to guarantee to all the consumers the authenticity of the citrus fruits juice “made in Sicily”.

The public participating in the workshop was composed from health and agronomic experts, as well as from a general audience sensitive to nutrition and health issues.
